Jefferson Women's Soccer Ends Season With a 1-0 Loss to Genesee
Jefferson Women's Soccer narrowly misses out on the National Tournament.
The Cannoneer Women's Soccer Program ends a remarkable season narrowly missing out on a trip to the National Tournament with a heartbreaking loss to Genesee. The Cannoneers put in a spirited performance in a very back and forth match in which either team could have taken the advantage. Fantastic attacking was stopped by the Genesee GK, the tournament MVP on more than one occasion. The midfield battle was electric with both teams vying for possession. And the defending and goalkeeping was incredible as both teams took well over 10 shots. It wasn't until a mistake off a corner after the 75th minute that the Cougars got out in front, and were able to see the game out from there. It was an a total team performance with multiple players going down injured throughout the match, and the Cannoneer's will feel they didn't get a deserved win.
The Cannoneer Women's Soccer Program had one of their best seasons in program history with an overall record of 10-3, a 7-0 record at home (only 4 goals conceded at home), total of 55 goals scored and only 16 against, 4 MSAC All-Conference awards (including 2 Freshman) as well as 4 Honorable Mentions, 3 All Region 1st team awards, 2 all region 2nd team awards, and an all region 3rd team award, as well as 2 players being named to the Team of the Tournament. The season can only be described as truly unforgettable. The ladies have made this community proud and shown what it really means to be a Cannoneer, and they will be back next year to win the Regional Final.
