Cannoneers Battle Back for Big Win Over Central Maine Mustangs
Jefferson Hockey comes away with a big win against Central Maine.
The JCC Cannoneers returned to home ice looking to bounce back from a recent loss, facing off against a tough opponent in the Central Maine Community College Mustangs.
First Period:
Both teams came out strong, playing disciplined hockey with few mistakes or scoring chances. Late in the period, Cam Winebar found a seam and connected with leading scorer Mason Savage, who buried the puck to give JCC a 1–0 lead heading into the break.
Second Period:
The pace picked up quickly. Penalties on the Cannoneers gave the Mustangs a power play opportunity, which they converted to tie the game 1–1. But JCC responded with flair—Owen Bismarck went coast-to-coast and finished with a highlight-reel goal to reclaim the lead. Moments later, Dylan Johnson dazzled with a 360-degree pass across the ice to Tanner Esposito, who made it 3–1. The Cannoneers looked to carry that momentum into the third, but the Mustangs struck back in the final seconds of the period, narrowing the gap to 3–2.
Third Period:
A goalie change saw Avery Zenger step in for the injured Presley Patrin, who had an outstanding performance with 29 saves over two periods. Central Maine quickly tied the game at 3, but Mason Savage answered on the power play to restore JCC's lead. The Mustangs responded again, making it 4–4, but freshman Mason Jeeves scored his first career goal to put the Cannoneers back on top. The final minutes were a hard-fought battle until Savage sealed the win with an empty-net goal—his third of the game.
Final Score: JCC 6 – Central Maine 4
A gritty, team-driven performance and clutch scoring helped the Cannoneers secure a big win against a formidable opponent. Congratulations to the team on a strong bounce-back effort!
