Jefferson Baseball Shortstop Hunter Thomas Commits to NCAA Division II

Sophomore shortstop Hunter Thomas (Elmira, NY) has accepted an athletic scholarship to play at Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia. The Davis & Elkins Senators compete in the Great Midwestern Conference for Head Coach Charlie Goens.

Thomas had a promising freshmen season for the Cannoneers hitting .355 in 110 at-bats, 19 RBI, 10 doubles, 20 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases. He also provided leadership for the infield starting 36 of 38 games at shortstop. Thomas will be counted on to transfer to Davis & Elkins and make an immediate impact on the field right away in the fall of 2016.

Thomas has also signed a contract to play for the Owensboro Oilers in the Ohio Valley Collegiate League for the summer of 2016. He played the previous two summers (2014 & 2015) as a member of the Adirondack Trailblazers in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.

For the Cannoneers, Thomas is the seventh player in the last three years to transfer to a Division II program in the state of West Virginia. Thomas will join former teammate Michael Wood (2015) who accepted a scholarship at Davis & Elkins last April.
