Jefferson's sophomore guards, Jabriel M. Blue of the men's basketball team and Joelle G. Percy of the women's basketball team, earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III athlete and co-athlete of the week honors in addition to being named JCC co-athletes of the week for the week ending January 22. JCC's athlete of the week program is sponsored by Victory Promotions.
Jabriel, a 2010 graduate of Wings Academy, is majoring in criminal justice at Jefferson. Blue was named NJCAA Region III athlete of the week for the week ending January 15. This past week, Blue reached a milestone scoring his 1000th career point and averaged 25 points per game and 10 rebounds per game ending the week with a 2-1 record. Blue made the game winning shot versus Onondaga Community College with 2.8 seconds left on the clock. Additionally, he was named MSAC athlete of the week for the week ending January 22.
Joelle, a 2010 graduate of Carthage High School, is majoring in humanities and social science at Jefferson. For the second time in her career, Percy tied the College's record for 3 point baskets made in a single game with seven 3-pointers against Corning Community College leading the Lady Cannoneers to a 3-point win in overtime. Percy's accomplishments on the court this past week include scoring 26 points per game and averaging 6 rebounds per game. Joelle helped lead the Cannoneers to a 2-1 record this week with wins over visiting Cayuga CC and host Corning CC. Additionally, Joelle shot 80 percent from the free throw line. She was named the NJCAA Region III co-athlete of the week for the week ending January 22 for which she shares honors with Tyresha Mathis of Cayuga Community College.
